The people-search sites that actually matter in 2026, and how each one removes you
Updated September 9, 2026 · by HomeCloak
Opt-out guides that list 300 sites are technically accurate and practically useless. Most of those sites are rebranded copies of a handful of networks, and removing yourself from the parent removes you from the copies. Here is the shorter, real list.
The networks
Removing yourself at the parent covers every brand listed with it.
- PeopleConnect: TruthFinder, Intelius, Instant Checkmate, US Search, ZabaSearch. Removal through their own tool, verified by an emailed code.
- BeenVerified: BeenVerified, Ownerly, PeopleLooker, NeighborWho. Written requests to their privacy inbox with a signed authorization, or the opt-out form.
- Whitepages: Whitepages and Whitepages Premium. Written request or the opt-out form.
- Spokeo. Written request or opt-out form; among the faster responders.
- Radaris and its family (PhoneOwner and others). Written request; expect a verification loop.
- MyLife, ClustrMaps, PeekYou, InfoTracer, GoLookUp, Spytox, UFind. Individual sites; most accept written requests.
The upstream sources
The sites above buy much of their data from a smaller set of aggregators: Acxiom, Epsilon, Data Axle, LexisNexis, Thomson Reuters CLEAR, and B2B vendors like People Data Labs and ZoomInfo. Opting out upstream slows the re-import that makes people-search removals feel like whack-a-mole. These accept written requests but ask more questions; People Data Labs, for instance, looks up records by email and phone rather than by address.
Three kinds of opt-out
- Email: a written request to a published privacy address. This can be fully automated, and it covers most of the sites that matter.
- Form with email verification: BeenVerified-style. A service can prepare it, but the confirmation link lands in your inbox.
- CAPTCHA-gated form: FastPeopleSearch, Nuwber, PeopleFinders. Only you can do these, and a legitimate service will tell you so rather than pretend.
Why removals come back
People-search sites rebuild from public records and purchased feeds on a rolling basis. A removal takes down your current record; a fresh import months later can recreate it. That is why you need either periodic re-checks or a monitoring service that re-files automatically.
Common questions
Should I start with the biggest sites?
Start with the ones that rank for your name in a search engine. That is usually Whitepages, Spokeo, a PeopleConnect brand, BeenVerified, and Radaris.
Will one opt-out cover my spouse?
Usually not. Profiles are per person. Include household members in each request, or file separately for each.
How long does it take?
Days to a few weeks per site. Privacy laws allow up to 45 days.
Skip the 250 hours.
HomeCloak files verified removal requests with every listing site, people-search network, and registered data broker on our list, reads the replies, follows up on every silence, and re-files when something comes back — for $109.99 a year. We prepare the few steps only you can do.
